The engine, according to the numbers, was originally in a Pontiac. Between about 1970 and 1976, Pontiac used the Chevy 250ci L6 as the base-model engine for several cars, including the Firebird. This is basically the same engine that was available in a '73 Nova. It is the same basic block as the original for this car, which was either a 194ci or 230ci straight 6. The engine runs pretty smooth, although the air filter and oil dipstick are missing.
The transmission is not original either. It is a '65 or '66 Muncie 4-speed, either an M20, M21, or M22 with what appears to be a Hurst shifter on the floor. The numbers on the tranny are as follows: casting #3885010, serial #P0126. As far as I know, the only ways to determine which specific model it is are to pull it off the engine and count the input splines, or pull the side cover. It seems to be in working condition. The car appears to have had a column-shifter originally.
The floor and trunk pans are quite rusty, with a few holes and some poor patches. The rear frame rails are also fairly rusty (this looks to be the reason the rear bumper is off). The front end, including the firewall, seems to be fairly solid and not nearly as rusty. The brakes are shot, although the parking brake still works. The gas tank is off the car. It is dented a bit, although it's not very rusty and I couldn't find any holes. All the glass is intact, with no cracks. The body panels are in generally decent shape considering the age. Only the rocker panels seem really rotten. There are a few small rust holes, but none bigger than a quarter. The passenger door skin is slightly dented. The interior seats are pretty well trashed. At the very least the covers and foam need replacement. I'm fairly certain they are not original, since the car was originally black with a blue interior and the current seats are tan. Also, according to the cowl codes, it should have a bench seat. The dash and trim have been painted black over the original blue.
I can provide a bill of sale, but no title. A title is not necessary in Rhode Island for a vehicle this age.
